On January 10th, 2008, state run investment organization Dubai and MGM Mirage reported that they are going to spend a total of $800 million to both buy MGM shares in the latest activity to increase Dubai’s stake in the company. Their plans to make an offer for ten million shares valued between $75 up to $80, a premium of around 7.2% up to 14.3% over closing price on Tuesday. The shares of the casino online raised 4.4%.

Kirk Kerkorian’s Tracinda Organization, the holder of the 52.4% of the MGM shares, does not have any plans to sell any of its shares. Dubai World will buy the 50% of the shares that are now in sale. The Dubai World current stake will improve from 6.6% up to 8.4%, if all of the ten million shares are sold. Dubai World has been steadily increasing its stake in MGM, which manages 11 casinos in Las Vegas such as the Bellagio, New York and Luxor.

In December Dubai World bought five million MGM shares of Kirk Kerkorian’s Lincy group. In that previous buyout, it shelled out $424 million or $84.80 per share. Dubai World began enlarging its shares in MGM in August 2007 as part of the deal that will include the buyout of 14.2 million MGM shares and the buyout of the 50% shares in MGM’s CityCenter endeavor in Las Vegas, Nevada.
