US Online Gambling Industry Does Not Lose Hope
Since the UIGEA passed in the USA Congressman Barney Frank has been making attempts to replace the online gambling law. The latest defeat of Barney was a blow to the most of online casino gambling industry, however, there is hope still. Frank is trying to pass his previously proposed online gambling act, the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA). Since the number of supporters for the proposal is growing continually, a light has appeared at the end of the tunnel. IGREA is developed to overturn the controversial online casinos gambling ban, the UIGEA, and if it is implemented it will give power to the US state governments to regulate online casino gambling individually.
The defeated Payment Systems Protection Act, HR 5767, proposed by Barney Frank and Ron Paul nearly passed via the House Financial Services Committee, but unfortunately all ended in a 32-32 tie vote (meaning it’s defeated) and as a result failed to pass. HR 5767 could not have solved the internet gambling situation in the United States but could have stopped instead the controversial drafted regulations for the UIGEA whereas Congress keeps debating the online casino gambling issue.
However, there are a number of other bills in preparation, that is without a doubt luckily for the online gambling industry. There are now 48 cross-party co-sponsors for Frank’s IGREA that would propose licensing and regulating the online casino gambling industry. Moreover there is a bill from Representative Robert Wexler in the works that wants to legalize online poker specifically, this bill also has support. Last on the promising bills list is the proposal of Shelley Berkley for a research of the online gambling industry.
