Bodog has problems
Bodog is one of the top online casinos and poker rooms in the world. But for the some months it has had a lot of ups and downs. Not long ago they ran a $250,000 guaranteed online poker tournament which was very successful and the biggest throughout the history. A second poker open with the Main Event will be held on 5 October. However, at the moment Bodog has serious troubles, connected with the fact of losing the company’s rights to Bodog.com, its original domain name. The online poker room has moved to BodogLife.com, but the company crew has reduced a lot.
Bodog.com was founded by Calvin Ayre in 1994 and soon it became a household brand, together with its owner. The online group is located in one of the Caribbean islands, Antigua. Ayre expressed what he was thinking of the US online gambling ban that may have resulted in some problems for him. So, Bodog was sold to Morris Mohawk Gaming Group together with the rights to service the online company all through North America. Ayre left this business.
In the middle of 2007 Bodog lost the rights to its domain and first the company moved to NewBodog.com and then to BodogLife.com. The company moving to Montreal caused the loss of many of their staff who didn’t want to move. In addition, they have discharged nearly 250 employees, reducing the company’s staff to 100 people. It has postponed all its advertising campaigns.
Between the UIGEA that would make Bodog unlawful in the USA due to their sportsbook activities, and the money seized from the major American banks that evidently belonged to the company’s payment processors, Bodog could have serious troubles. Bodog asserts that this money wasn’t theirs, but now there are lot of slow payments complaints and customers are withdrawing their money.
